ctrlX OS – Motion
The ctrlX MOTION App is the universal software solution for a wide range of motion control applications. From simple single-axis movements and synchronized axes to coordinated path movements for robotics or CNC applications, the functionality is flexibly scalable based on a unified motion kernel.
Standard Motion
Standard Motion 10 Axes – Basic license for up to 10 axes.
Features included in Standard Motion:
- Point-to-point movements with position or speed control
- Axle override for speed and acceleration/deceleration
- Proceedings against a fixed attack
- Collision detection and avoidance for in-line axes
- Gantry axis control
- Operating modes for homing, jog and traversing movements (absolute, relative or additive)
- Inch / metric units
- Expansion packages for additional axes are available.
Engineering and configuration:
- Integrated fieldbus connection through predefined axis profiles with full EtherCAT support
- Easy engineering and control of the axes via axis interface, predefined profiles and PLCopen library
- Monitoring functions and error handling for safe and transparent operation
- Web-based user interface for configuration, commissioning and troubleshooting – no engineering software required, just a web browser.
- Easy handling of operating modes for positioning, speed and torque control with dynamic switching during operation
- Easy functional expansion through optional add-on licenses for Synchronized Motion and Coordinated Motion for robotics applications
Base licenses and optional axis extensions
Basic license “Motion Standard 10 Axes”
This license allows unlimited use of the ctrlX MOTION app with all the functions listed above. It provides the basic motion functions for single-axis positioning and can be used for up to 10 axes per controller .
Option “Motion extended to 20 axes”
New option for the ctrlX MOTION App version 3 or higher .
Activating this license option allows you to configure a maximum of 20 axes . Both real and virtual axes count equally ; for example, 5 virtual and 15 real axes together equal 20 axes.
Requirement:
- ctrlX MOTION App version 3 or higher
Option “Motion extended to 40 axes”
New option for the ctrlX MOTION App version 3 or higher .
Activating this license option allows for the configuration of a maximum of 40 axes . Real and virtual axes are counted together; for example, 5 virtual and 35 real axes together equal 40 axes.
Requirement:
- ctrlX MOTION App version 3 or higher
Option “Motion extended to unlimited axes”
New option for the ctrlX MOTION App version 3 or higher .
Activating this license option allows you to configure the maximum number of axes – both real and virtual. Dependencies on the controller hardware used are possible.

Technology packages for synchronized motion applications
Motion Electronic Gear option
This option extends the standard Motion app to include gear functions as a basis for synchronized axis movements.
Features:
- Position synchronization (GearInPos)
- Speed synchronization (GearInVel)
Requirement:
- ctrlX MOTION App version 2.6 or higher
"Motion Cam" option
This option extends the standard Motion app to include the functionality of curve charts (point tables) with a scaling factor.
Features:
- Up to 99 cam charts (cam tables) in the Motion app
- Up to 1,024 points per cam disc
Requirement:
- ctrlX MOTION App version 2.6 or higher with an active Electronic Gear license.
Motion FlexProfile option
This option extends the standard Motion app with FlexProfile functionality.
Features:
- Up to 4 FlexProfiles per axle
- Time- or event-driven execution
- Wide selection of motion laws
Requirement:
- ctrlX MOTION App version 2.6 or higher with an active Electronic Gear and Cam license.
Technology packages for coordinated motion in robotics applications
Motion Cartesian Kinematics option
This option extends the basic motion functions with special functions for Cartesian handling applications.
Features:
- Coordinated trajectory movements
- Jog mode for the entire kinematics
- Collision detection of servo drives in three dimensions
- Smoothing of movements through spline corner rounding
- Additional coordinate systems, e.g. for product or end effector
- Manual TCP operation
Requirement:
- ctrlX MOTION App version 1 or higher
“Motion Delta & Scara Kinematics (Level 2 Kinematics)” option
This option extends the "Cartesian Kinematics" option to include special functions for applications with Level 2 kinematics (e.g., Delta and SCARA kinematics).
Features:
- Delta kinematics
- SCARA kinematics
- 2D orientation
Requirement:
- ctrlX MOTION App version 2 or higher
- Cartesian Kinematics option
“Motion Articulated Kinematics (Level 3 Kinematics)” option
This option extends the "Level 2 Kinematics" option to include special functions for applications with Level 3 kinematics (e.g., articulated arm kinematics).
Features:
- Articulated kinematics
- 3D orientation

- “Motion Delta & Scara Kinematics (Level 2)” option
